25 former employees of the Oslo company MK Tømrer AS have reported the company to the police for wage theft of more than NOK 1.3 million. The claims concern unpaid wages and holiday pay, and the company was declared bankrupt this summer.
According to the bankruptcy report from Advokatfirmaet Schjødt, the bankruptcy may have been deliberate and planned in order to avoid employer responsibility.
– The case appears to be very serious. There are clear indications that the company's management may have tried to evade employer responsibility and payment obligations through formal corporate changes and bankruptcy. This may indicate intentional economic crime, and my clients expect the police to follow up the case thoroughly, says Attorney Servet Yildiz Stêrk of Sterk Law Firm.
The employees, several of them foreign workers, are now without wages and holiday pay for work carried out in the spring and summer of 2025. Several have sought payment through the state wage guarantee scheme, but the total claim exceeds NOK 1.3 million.
Sterk Law Firm is assisting the employees in cooperation with Fair Play Bygg and other organisations working against work-related crime.
